Captain's Farewell (baseball poem)

It goes without saying, things won't be the same

You were a great asset to this old ball game

We'll all recall your devotion and skill

And your love for the game that upheld your strong will

The time that you spent and committed to play

Left a lasting impression that's with us to stay

You may have not been as well known as Babe Ruth

But there are few like you, Captain, that's the truth

I hope that your future, with each passing year,

Leaves happy memories of your old life here

We'll miss you, no doubt, and you'll be on our minds

In our warm thoughts you won't be left behind

So this is the hope that I'm sending with you:

That the rest of your days are full of home runs too!

Happy retirement, Captain. Make sure that hanging up your bat and ball is just the beginning to your next great adventure. You will be missed!

(Just a super quick poem written per request from someone for a retiring baseball player called "Captain".)
