It goes without saying, things won't be the same
You were a great asset to this old ball game
We'll all recall your devotion and skill
And your love for the game that upheld your strong will
The time that you spent and committed to play
Left a lasting impression that's with us to stay
You may have not been as well known as Babe Ruth
But there are few like you, Captain, that's the truth
I hope that your future, with each passing year,
Leaves happy memories of your old life here
We'll miss you, no doubt, and you'll be on our minds
In our warm thoughts you won't be left behind
So this is the hope that I'm sending with you:
That the rest of your days are full of home runs too!
Happy retirement, Captain. Make sure that hanging up your bat and ball is just the beginning to your next great adventure. You will be missed!
(Just a super quick poem written per request from someone for a retiring baseball player called "Captain".)

My Mountain
I sit on my mountain and empty my mind
I sit and I pull away from space and time
I sit and I meditate with open ears,
An open mind and heart, ready to hear
The voice of our God speaking softly to me
Telling me all about things that will be
Listening, I learn ultimate happiness
Is attained through the love our children express
Our souls are passed on to our children and so
Their love is the most precious love we can know
We nuture our children and live on through time
As eternal souls living for the divine
So care for your children and care for your soul
For that is the only way you'll remain whole
I don't pray anymore - now I have no need
God's answered all my prayers. My soul has been freed.
He gave me all that I wanted and much more
He gave me a gorgeous family I adore
Now rather than prayers answered I sit and ask
To listen and learn about each of God's tasks
He speaks to me as I sit there eagerly
He tells me about free will given to me
He says it's a gift he's given each of us
To rule ourselves however we decide just
The freedom to choose and to govern ourselves-
Something to appreciate above all else
He talks about the great value of women
How we are of a higher order than men
He mentions how without us there'd be no earth
No past and no future, no life and no birth
That's why it is the duty of men worldwide
To care for us, protect us, stand by our sides
God stands for love, peace, creation, harmony
That is the reason he made both you and me
He's the creator-not a cruel god of war
He loves us all to our soul's very core
But lastly he told me something hard to hear
I didn't want to know but couldn't close my ears
He told me that one day our great Earth will die
And we'll all have to work together to try
To create a way to save our wondrous home
The fate of our future will be ours alone
The knowledge was so overwhelming but grand
I was truly moved, happy to take a stand
To share my knowledge and try to change men's thoughts
Now I'm glad I listened and learned quite a lot
As I climb down my mountain, back to my home
I set out to share what I learned where I roam
God by my side, I know I will be heard
I won't be alone as I'm spreading the word
(This poem IN NO WAY reflects my beliefs. It was written to reflect the thoughts and feelings of someone who hired me to write it. Just sharing it here in case anyone else can somehow benefit from or at least be amused by it.)

Why We're CNAs
You're often undervalued working as a CNA
But what people don't realize is what we give each day
Patients always need more from us than help with simple chores
They need a friend with open ears, willing to give much more
Not only do we bathe them, clothe them, wipe away their tears
We share their joys and fears, helping them through their final years
For many patients, we become the best of friends they've had
So when they go they're not alone but leave us hurt and sad
We get attached and learn to love many of those we aide
But that's what makes our job so great. That's why we're CNAs!
(For the record, I'm not a CNA. I was paid a few dollars to write this brief poem for someone else and thought I'd post it there for any other CNAs out there who might appreciate it. Enjoy!)

My Soul
This soul of mine, passed down to me
From my father and his before
Through generations infinite
We're carried on forevermore
My soul will be inherited
By my children, passed down from me
And passed along to their daughters
And sons, down through our family tree
That is what I was always told
And as I grew it's all I had
But now my soul is threatened by
Man's deadly war - pointless and sad
My brothers and I have been forced
Into this war against our will
And now they want to take our sons
To fight this war - to maim and kill
They call this fight a "holy war"
Between those with different beliefs
But love, not war, is what God wants
Not for us all to suffer grief
God gave Jesus - his only son
To die for us so we would learn
Yet here we stand, ignorantly
Ending ourselves as our souls burn
Mercilessly, they take our sons
And then come for our grandchildren
Hasn't my family hurt enough,
Suffered and given all we can?
Will we survive to see the day
Our family's finally recompensed?
Will we live to see our rewards
For patient faith despite expense?
Or will they fight 'til we all fall-
'Til no one wins but death and sin
And my soul dies, not to return
As I bury my grandchildren?
I watch as these poor, lost souls fight
Listening only to rage and pride
Breaking the 10 commandments just
So each side can prove itself right
"That's not God's will!" I yell in vain
But here my words go still unheard
Will they ever open their eyes
And let us choose how we must serve?
"Leave us alone and let us serve
And praise our God in our own way.
Don't let my soul die with my sons.
Let us live on another day!"
(This is yet another piece I was hired and inspired to do. Again, not my style but hopefully enjoyable or even inspirational to someone else out there. Happy reading!)

God's Love
The other night while fast asleep
I had a dream so deep and real
As I lay peacefully in bed
This dream changed how I think and feel
I dreamt I was the one true God
All-powerful, generous, kind
Back in the old wild west, I was
Watching, with love, over mankind
The Indians and cowboys there,
In the heart of New Mexico,
Loved me and worshiped faithfully
As I watched each one learn and grow
They created wondrous things
With intricate, clever design!
They flourished with wisdom and love
Inspired by all things divine
But in this vivid dream I had
Not all stayed peaceful, calm, and still
Soon, Indians and cowboys fought
Killing hundreds against my will
Conflict arose as each side found
They wanted things the other had
Their hearts were claimed by jealousy
As greed and anger drove them mad
There was no mercy as they fought
Their mindless anger was too strong
All day and night their battle cries
Ate at my soul and carried on
I love my children, each and all
Despite the errors in their ways
I wanted to protect them all
So I made the skies rain for days
It flooded paths and stopped the fights
As neither side could stand the rain
But my children soon opposed me
Wanting the right to inflict pain
They cursed me and renounced their faith
Abandoning their love of good
A lust for war consumed their hearts
But giving up, I never would
Distraught, I ruled the rains to stop
Giving my children what they'd asked
I watched as they destroyed themselves
Never was there a harder task
Watching the ones you love in pain,
To offer help and be excused..
It isn't easy being God
What's there to do when you're refused?
They curse me when they're suffering
And rebel when I interfere
I love them unconditionally
And for them I am always here
But being just and kind and fair
Not giving up on those you love
Is never easy as it seems-
Not even for the "man above"
Still, here I am, eternally
For all my children worldwide
Loving them, whether they love me
Not giving up or taking sides
And I will watch with open arms,
An open heart, and open ears
For the day when they once again
Request my help with all their fears
I'll watch them each and every day
And care for them forevermore
No matter how far they may stray
My children, I'll always adore.
As I awoke from this great dream,
I felt so deeply touched and moved
I thanked God for sharing His love
And greeted morning, feeling soothed
Each day since, when I feel alone,
Overcome with anxiety,
I close my eyes, think of this dream
And remember how much God loves me
For the record, I can't say that I'm particularly religious but I was inspired by someone who is to spend about an hour writing this poem. She had an idea, which she shared with me, and she requested that I write the poem using that idea as the basis. I did just that and she claimed to be "moved" by the result when I presented her with this piece so I thought that I would share it here in case it might help or be enjoyed by someone else who comes across it. Happy reading to all of you and hope to see you here at Rhythmic Writing again soon!

Business Success
When asking meanings of success
The answers are not all the same
They vary based on people's goals
Their drive, their values, and their aim
For many, wealth or fame's the plan
For others, love keeps them content
For some, a respectable job
Or for a few, just paying rent
But why choose one if you can just
Put in the time to know yourself
And find the best balance of each
To give you your ideal wealth?
First thing's first: do what you love
Or find ways to love what you do
If where you are won't make you smile
Consider that it's not for you
Secondly, don't be scared to fail
But try and try and try again
Try different things to find yourself
You won't regret the time you spend
Lastly, the part that pays the bills:
Research which hobbies pay you best
When you love what you do daily
That is the best key to success
It is much simpler to prosper
When you enjoy everyday work
The hours fly, as work goes by
And paychecks feel like unearned perks
You put more in and get more out
And recognition heads your way
When work's not work but what you love
And what you would do anyway
Then you'll truly have succeeded
Through all the passion you employ
You can have it all, you see-
The fortune, fame, respect, and joy!
Just a SUUUUUPER quick poem I wrote. Definitely not my best work and not really the best rhyming skill ever utilized but I hope it communicates a point that will at least help someone out there searching for inspiration or direction. Thanks for reading and be sure to check back for more rhythmic writing!
